Still moving forward...

Our Journey

Bethany Church of God was established about 1900 in a storefront on Mack Avenue in Detroit.  In 1982 land at our present location was purchased.  For two years, during the first building phase, we met for worship at Henry Ford II High School.  In 1984 the congregation moved into this first phase of this facility.  The second phase, the education wing and fellowship hall, was completed in 1989.  Our next building is being planned.

Even after 100 plus years our journey is still moving forward.  We strive to have a positive impact in our community and our world around us.  Please, come, join us on this journey as we work together to make a difference!

Who we are

At Bethany Church of God, we use the name Church of God because it is a biblical name.  The name “Church of God” is used in the New Testament to describe the body of Christ.  What better name is there for a group who worships God!  (1 Corinthians 1:2; 10:32; 2 Corinthians 1:1; Acts 20:28)

Our Congregation consider ourselves to be a part of a bigger Community of believers.  Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is a part of that Community.  (Acts 2)

At Bethany, we believe that when one accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior, God places that person into His church, His community – the family of God.

We strive to be a church that follows the teachings of the early Church and what Christ taught by living our lives for Him, by worshipping and serving right here in our community.

The name Church of God is used because we want to witness that we are a part of the body of Christ.  We want to encourage you to find your place within the body of Christ.  Whether it is here at Bethany or within another part of the Family of God – don’t miss out on Eternity!
